THE Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a three-man gang that cajoled, hypnotised and raped a University of Uyo (UNIUYO) student (names withheld).
While parading the suspects, James Etim, Utibe Archibong and Mberebong Peter, the state Police spokesperson, Miss Cordelia Nwawe, said: “A three-man gang was arrested on June 11, 2016. They picked women in a tricycle within Uyo and rape them. This is a crime we consider an affront on humanity because when you are engaged in sex with another person without her consent, it is rape.”
Daily Sun learnt that the gang would pick girls disguising as tricycle operators even as other passengers were members.
One of the supposed passengers would pretend to be a foreigner who came into the country to sell goods. He would ask for help from other passengers to assist him sell the goods, promising to give them laptops and phones in return. Once the victim indicates interest, she would be taken to an unknown destination.
