Detectives attached to the Delta State Police Command, Asaba on Monday foiled an attempt by members of a syndicate to sell a three-year-old baby boy identified as Chukwuka.

It was gathered that the three-year-old had been ferried to Onitsha, near Asaba, through human traffickers. But the police, acting on a tip-off, arrested one Emeka Odili and five others.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, said the suspects were arrested in
Onitsha, Anambra State, adding that the police also arrested the girlfriend of one of the suspects identified as Blessing, who had been in the business over the years.

The suspects had before their arrest allegedly sold two of their own children to the traffickers and shared the proceeds, N1.3m.

Nemesis reportedly caught up with the suspects after the mother of their latest victim Justina Odili, a resident of Umudaeke, Asaba raised the alarm and reported the incident at the ‘A’ Division Police.

According to Kalu, the suspects are helping the police with the investigation and would be
arraigned upon the completion of investigation.
