  Some elders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State have vowed to wrestle the state from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 general elections.

  A former National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Bello Haliru Mohammad, who spoke on behalf of other elders in the state, after peaceful state congress, on Sunday, noted that they had resolved that they would support the new state executive and work hard to wrestle power from present administration in 2019.

  According to him. “This election has been open and transparent. We are very happy, very glad that all the delegates behalf very well because all of us belong to the same family. We love our party,it not a fight,and you know PDP always do it things like a family affairs. As the new leadership emerged,we would give them our full support.

   “Our main aims is to work towards 2019 general elections and take over government of Kebbi State by the grace of God,and the government of the federation.”

   While speaking on reconciliation in the party, Mohammed said, ” the Caretakers Committee did a lot of reconciliation and because of the level of the reconciliation, you find out that out of 27 elective positions, ten were contested for,17 were unopposed. That show a remarkable success in the reconciliation. You know the reconciliation is a continue thing, after the election,there will still be reconciliation. The party always reconciling our members. So,we don’t have problems. “

  He also advised all members of the party to close ranks stressing that, “with unity in the party,success is ours”.

    Earlier, chairman of the State Congress, Sen. Nimi Barigha Amange, who  supervised the Congress with representatives of INEC, led by Mohammed Awwal,Head of Department of Election and Political Parties Monitoring Department, declared Alhaji Haruna D. Saadu as the new chairman of the party in the state.

   He declared that Saadu defeated his co-contestants,Alhaji Ibrahim Dan-Illela with a total votes of 448 as against his opponent who scored 286 votes out of 636 total votes casted.

  Other elected officers included: Garba Labbo Tasha, Abdullahi Rahah, Sahabi Kimo and Haruna Issa who were elected as Assistant Organising  Secretary,Treasurer,Assistant Auditor and Assistant Treasurer, respectively.

In his remark, Saadu thanked the delegates for conducting themselves peacefully. He maintained that he was ready to partner with his co-contestants for the progress of the party and Nigeria as a whole.

   He also pledged that his executive would provide equal opportunities for all members, fair to them and re-awake the party in the state to serve as a vibrant opposition party.
