Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has revealed the secret behind the successful conduct of the national convention of the People Democratic Party (PDP) held, earlier this month, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerged as the presidential candidate of the party for the 2019 election.

Governor Okowa, who was chairman of the planning committee for the convention, said in Asaba that the committee adhered strictly to the provisions of the constitution to ensure that the exercise was not only free, fair and transparent but that the outcome was generally acceptable to all interested parties.

The governor added that the same principle of adhering to constitutional provision also made it possible for the party to conduct primaries for other elective positions in the state.

Represented by the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, the governor spoke during the opening ceremony of the 6th Quadrennial National Delegates’ Conference of the National Union of Hotels and Personal Services Workers with the theme: ‘Adherence to the Provisions of Union Constitution as A Panacea to Deepen Internal Democracy and Stability.’

He called on members of the union to abide by the theme of the conference, which he said, was apt at this point of the country’s political history.

The governor urged the union members to put the provisions of their constitution into play when choosing a new executive council that will pilot the affairs of the union.

National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba, in a goodwill message, called on members of the union to remain united as this is the only way to achieve collective goals.

He said that since unity can defeat the strongest opposition and break the stiffest barrier, they should remain steadfast and fight together for the betterment of their welfare.
