Nigerian-British born boxer, Lawrence Okolie, has successfully defended his WBO Cruiserweight champion on Sunday.

Okolie returned to action after more than a year out of the ring and defeated his mandatory challenger, David Light to defend his world title.

The bout which was held at Manchester AO Arena saw Lawrence dominating all over the 12 rounds where his opponent had to endure some punishing power punches.

Although it was a tough fight where the Brits took four punches but still managed to hold his way through against his opponent.

He eventually took a unanimous decision victory and ultimately secured his belt and the judges had it at 116-112, 119-108, 117-110.

Okolie had returned to the ring with a new trainer in his corner, SugarHill Steward and that paid off in his bid to halt the winning streak of his New Zealander foe.

Coming into the game, Light boasts of 20-0 which includes 12 knockouts and with the victory Lawrence Okolie records now includes 19-0 among which he has 14 knockouts.

It was Okolie’s third defence of his WBO World Cruiserweight Title after winning it back in 2021.

Okolie, now being promoted by Ben Shalom and Boxxer having left Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing.

Lawrence is a British-Nigerian professional boxer. At regional level, he held the Commonwealth cruiserweight title from 2018 to 2019, and the British and European cruiserweight titles separately in 2019.
