The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has perfected plans to maintain an appreciable level of fiscal sustainability without raising taxes to worsen the financial burden of the people.

Speaking during a Eucharistic Thanksgiving Service held at Cathedral Church of St. Faith, Awka, to mark the commencement of the 2017-2018 Legal Year of the state judiciary, Governor Obiano emphasised that his administration had the best interests of the people of the state at heart.

He, however, observed that achieving fiscal sustainability is important to enable the state undertake its lofty programmes and emphasised that he already had the momentum on his side while calling on Ndi Anambra to allow him continue with the speed.

Governor Obiano also revealed that his administration had adopted the judiciary as an enabler because of its key role in achieving his vision, as it affects creating the enabling environment for the socio-economic development of the state. 

While thanking the judiciary for its support during the past legal year, Governor Obiano promised that his government would continue to support them to be at their best. 

In his remarks, the state Chief Judge, Justice Peter Umeadi, acknowledged that the state judiciary under the Obiano administration had fared very well and there is the hope that his second term would be better. 

He restated his commitment to institutionalising an independent judiciary in the state that functions effectively without interference. 

Earlier in a sermon, the Anglican Bishop of Awka, the Right Reverend Alexander Ibezim, regretted that the country’s justice system was characterised by endemic corruption, which had made it impossible for the common man to access justice and harped on the need for legal practitioners to see their work, as a sensitive one which must be done with utmost respect for the sanctity of human lives and strict adherence to sound morals.
