Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, yesterday tasked corps members serving in the state to work for the unity of the country to actualise the purpose of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Philip Shaibu gave the charge during the closing ceremony of the 2017 batch “B” stream II orientation course at the temporary orientation camp, Okada, Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state.

He said the nation, at the moment, was undergoing various reforms and developmental challenges in its  polity, stressing that they should be part of the positive change and shun corruption and nepotism which had ravaged the society.

According to the governor, the strength of national cohesion is the vibrancy of the youths and therefore, admonished the corps members to explore areas that need growth and development in the country through hard work, dedication, loyalty, discipline, patriotism and commitment, to improve on the lives of Nigerians. He said stressing that was the only way the objectives and set goals of the scheme would be achieved.

Besides, he said the effective realisation of the scheme would not only promote unity but also foster real integration among Nigerians and effect the most meaningful development of the country.

He promised that the government would do all in its power to support the scheme, just as he urged them to undertake developmental projects in rural areas which would encourage the spirit of self-help and patriotism among their host communities.

Earlier, the NYSC state Coordinator,  Abdulahi Yusuf Baba while presenting the 2,230 corps members to the state governor, said ‎over 75 percent of them had been posted to various educational institutions to impart knowledge in the young ones in compliance with the established posting policy of NYSC. 

The rest consisting of doctors, paramedics and lawyers were posted to rural health care centres and the ministry of justice.
