Director General of the National Youths Service Corps((NYSC), Brig.Gen
Suleiman Sanusi Kazaure, says there are plans by the scheme to push for increase in allowances of serving corps members across he country.
This move may not be unconnected with the current economic challenges facing the country today.
Gen. Kazaure,who said this on Thursday, during the inspection tour of the permanent camp of Kebbi State NYSC camp in Dakingeri, said that all states governments were also expected to increased
their local allowances from what they are given now to N10,000
monthly.
Currently, the local transport allowances is N1,500 and N3,000
intra-states transports while monthly allowances remained N19,800.
While speaking with journalists after inspection of facilities in the
camp, Gen. Kazuare, represented by Director of General Services, NYSC
Headquarters, Alhaji Basauri Sanusu Yakasai, said the scheme was aware of the financial challenges of over 280,000 corps members that
traveled from far States to various camps for their orientation yearly
and likely expenditure they would face for a year during the service.
He said the NYSC, through Ministry of Education, is pushing new budget forward to the Ministry of Finance to reviews of the corps members local, states and monthly allowances.
The DG who said the establishment of more tertiary institutions in
Nigeria and increment in the population of number of graduates
produced yearly necessitated reviews if the scheme budgets said,issue
of stream I and II were also designed to meet up with the population.
