As part of its mandate to improve the welfare of its members, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has initiated a health insurance cover for members in the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) arm of the union.

According to the general secretary of the union, Afolabi Olawale, the cover, tagged “Health Insurance for Petroleum Tanker Drivers on the Wheel,” is in “furtherance of one of the key objectives of our great Union, which is to cater to the working and socio/economic conditions of our members.”

He noted that the launching of the project which would hold formally in the coming week is a Health Insurance Scheme for all Petroleum Tanker Drivers on the Wheels to further support the drivers as they go about delivering their core assignments across the country.

Olawale expressed that it is a “landmark initiative of the leadership of the Union and the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Branch of the Union for the Health and Wellbeing of every Petroleum Tanker Driver member of the Union.”

He added, “Our Petroleum Tanker Drivers have been of immense service to every home, offices, and industrial places”, stating that the insurance cover will make their jobs easier and lives better.
