The Edo Command of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it had arrested four persons over alleged shoplifting.

Commandant of the corps in the state, Mr Makinde Ayinla, disclosed this on Wednesday in Benin while briefing newsmen on the activities of the corps.

Ayinla said that the suspects were arrested by men of the command on Tuesday night after they had broken into and shoplifted at a boutique on Upper Mission Road in Benin.

He said the suspects would soon be prosecuted.

The commandant also disclosed that two private security outfits had been sealed by the command for illegal operations.

He disclosed that about 4,500 litres of suspected adulterated diesel concealed in 25-litre jerry cans, numbering 180, were also seized by the command during its operations.

The commandant attributed the successes recorded by the command partly to “the new strategy put in place to ensure that the state is secured for the yuletide and forthcoming general elections’’.

He appealed to residents of the state to continue to synergise with the corps to ensure success in the fight against crimes and criminality, and advised criminal elements to leave the state.
