Ahead of next season, Akwa United unveiled 16 new players at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Saturday.
Striker Ajibola Otegbeye from Sunshine Stars, former Enyimba defensive midfielder, Kelly Kester and Victor Mbaoma from relegated Remo Stars alongside 13 other players were paraded as new members of Abdu Maikaba’s squad.
Fleet-footed winger Adeshina Gata joined from ABS with Etim Matthew and left wing-back Gabriel Wassa snapped from Enugu Rangers and Rivers United respectively.
Emmanuel Charles and Aniekeme Asuquo were promoted from the team’s junior side, Akwa Starlets.
The signings come in light of the Promise Keepers’ heavy schedule in the 2017-18 season as they are expected to better last season’s fourth-place finish in the Nigeria Professional Football League while they represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup after their Federation Cup triumph last term. They will also aim to defend the cup title.
