A conglomeration of 15 churches in Northern Nigeria under the umbrella of TEAKEN, on Thursday, converged in Jos to demand the release of Leah Sharibu from the den of Boko Haram.

They are also seeking an end to continued killings in Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Taraba, Benue, Plateau and Kaduna states.

The body expressed displeasure over the ongoing killings and destruction of lives and property by “heartless, cruel and wicket killer herdsmen” in most states of the North.

In a statement signed, on Thursday, in Jos, by TEKAN President, Rev. Caleb Ahima and General Secretary, Rev. Moses Ebuga, at the end of TEKAN Executive Council Meeting, lamented the excruciating pains and destruction of churches in Northern Nigeria.

“TEKAN call on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that immediate release of Leah Sharibu and other abducted victims of Boko Haram.

“The Church is worried about about the pretentious attitude of President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government as seen in the deft and dumb attitude towards the continuous killings of Nigerians without provoking visible, dependable and concrete solution to the attacks.

“The Church is deeply concerned about the increasing spate of kidnapping in the country and calls on the government and security agents to stop the dastardly acts immediately.”

Similarly, Head of Celestial Church of Christ in North Central Province, Superior Evangelist John Babalola, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to halt killings of Christians and destruction of churches in the country.

He noted that the Celestial Church, including COCIN and other churches, have been displaced and pastors killed in Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State where over 200 persons perished recently.

Babalola in a separate statement in Jos said President Buhari should not allow Nigerians to see him as President who is presiding over ethnic cleansing in the country.

Babalola’s words, “President Buhari need to be proactive, he should not allow people to see him as a President who is presiding over ethnic cleansing in the country.

“Federal Government should take responsibility of the killings because it has the constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property.

“The random killings in the country, particularly in Plateau, North Central and Nigeria has scared people away into the country, we must pray collectively to God to help us restored peace in Nigeria.”

TEKAN also expressed worry over the signs and utterances of political gladiators and political actors as they gear up towards 2019 general elections. He urged politicians to consider the interest of the county above individual interest.
