National Director, Corporate Affairs of the Nigerian Legion (CANL), Ms Grace Morenike Henry, has charged government to give jobs to children of fallen heroes and payment of allowances of ex-servicemen.

She said: “January 15 is the Remembrance Day in celebration of the fallen heroes. We are remembering national heroes our own sons and daughters who paid the supreme price and those who are still in trenches for their sacrifices in defence of the nation. We are honouring the living and the dead.

“Government must ramp up and support veterans, widows, orphans and other dependents of the fallen heroes. The government should assist the children of the fallen heroes by providing jobs and empowering them so that their children can have sense of belonging and the deaths of fathers will not be in vain. The heroes have been given their rightful place by the government. There is always room to do more.

“Government should address the welfare of the veterans in terms of payment of their outstanding allowances. I want to appreciate government for the release of insurance package to veterans.”
