A group, the Idemili Solidarity For Good Governance (ISGG), has thrown its weight behind the reelection bid of the current member representing Idemili North/South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Obinna Chidoka, insisting that he remained the best choice with brighter future for Idemili constituents.

Convener and chairman of the group, Dr Oluebube Nwangwu said the group wants the lawmaker, who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to return to the House because he would return as a ranking member of the House, and as such, stands the chance of becoming a principal officer, including emerging as the Speaker, Deputy Speaker or chairman of a major committee in the Green Chambers.

Addressing journalists, Dr. Nwangwu said: “Obinna is presenting a brighter chance and a wonderful opportunity for that matter for Idemili to go to the rooftop and occupy a top ranking position in Nigeria. So, we have to work on that opportunity and see how it goes by reelecting him to the Federal House. The picture is very clear that Obinna has acquired enough experiences to serve at a higher level and in any capacity he finds himself.”

He justified the group’s support for his reelection following his performances so far in the lower legislative chamber of the national assembly saying, “Obinna has made Idemili very proud in Abuja with his active participation in the affairs of the House in presenting and defending bills and motions, and most importantly, attracting dividends of democracy to his constituents through the empowerment of traders, women and youth with loans and jobs, road construction and other infrastructure and facilities in other areas like water, electricity and education among other things.”

Speaking further, he said: “Obinna has secured jobs for over 50 people, mostly the youths. He is the first Reps member from Idemili to attract road projects. He has brought over five rural road projects namely Amafor Road in Nkpor, Amesi Road at Ugwuagba, All Saints Road at Obosi, Ikoku Road at Isu village in Oba and Aboji Road also in Oba as well as Nkolika borehole in Obosi. He facilitated the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) loan to traders with 50 traders getting N5million loan each, another 50 traders getting N1millon each and another set of 100 traders getting N500,000 loan each.

“We also have it on record that Obinna has attracted 15 electric transformers and street solar light distributed and mounted across the communities such as Ogidi, Nnobi, Abacha, Eziowwelle, Odume, Enekwasumpu and others. He has also attracted water boreholes and classroom blocks to Awka Etiti, Uke, Ideani and other places, and empowered the people with vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, sewing machines and hair dryers among other things that aid people’s means of livelihood.”

Corroborating the chairman, the secretary of the group, Comrade Chiebuka Adimora observed that Obinna’s experience in legislative services were needed to face the current tough situation of things in Nigeria, arguing that sending a new hand to represent Idemili North/South in the national assembly in 2023 would be counterproductive because tough time requires people with experience and capacity to face it.
