The senator representing Niger East Senatorial district, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Musa, has commended the joint security taskforce currently operating in forest in Munya local government area of the state over the rescue of eight Kidnaped Victims, describing the operation as a welcome development.

In the last 48 hours, the Joint Security Taskforce code named, Special Hunters have lunched a full scale rescue operation around forest within communities within the local government, and have successfully rescued no fewer than eight Kidnaped Victims mostly women.

Unspecified number of the Bandits were neutralized during the operation while a number of motorcycles used by the gunmen were recovered.

Over one hundred members of the special hunters are currently combing forest within the local government, and according to the Chairman of the local government, Hon. Aminu Nagume, the operation will continue as long as the Bandits operate in the area.

“In the last two days eight people have been rescued by the Joint Security Taskforce, that is all I can tell you for now but the operation is a continuous one untill peace is restored in our communities”.

But Senator Sani Musa while reacting to this development, said, “It gladings my heart the news I am receiving from my Constituency over the ongoing operation by the joint security taskforce against Bandits in the area, this is highly commendable.

“This is long overdue but I think it is better late than never. My people can now begin to heave a sigh of relief, and I pray that this operation will be a sustained one so that my people can focus on their farms business and other commercial activities.

“We will do everything possible to ensure that we give the security agencies the necessary support needed to bring the activities of these criminals under control. The people must be allowed to sleep in their Communities with their two eyes closed.

“I commended their efforts so far and urged them to sustain the heat on these criminals. We will give them all the support to enable them win the war”.

It could be recalled that last week, the Senator took the cries of his people to the red chamber where he called on the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Christopher Musa, the Chief of Army Staff Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to immediately deploy troops to defend the unarmed populace and restore security to the affected communities in Niger State.

According to the Senator, this will be the only antidote to restoring confidence in the security and guarantee the safety of the affected communities.

The Senator in a motion to this effect on the floor of the Senate, said there is the urgent need for the federal government to deploy troops and other security apparatus to immediately bring an end to the menace of insurgency and terrorism in Niger State and other parts of Nigeria.

The Senator specifically urged the chief of Army Staff and the Inspector General of Police to as a matter of insurgency direct for the establishment of a permanent military and police command base at the axis adjoining Shiroro and Rafi Local Government areas respectively and to redesign the modus of operandi of the military operations within the affected areas to curtail the escalating insecurity.

The Senator also told the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and NEMA to as a matter of national emergency provide relief materials and medical support to the victims immediately.

According to Senator Musa, “the Senate has passed several resolutions, set up an Ad-hoc Committee on Security, held National Security summits, and declared every support at bringing an end to the persistent insecurity in our nation, we have appropriated monies and also advances numerous steps to support our nation’s security agencies, yet insecurity has continued to elude the nation”.

He pointed out that “eight years now Niger East Senatorial District of Niger State has come under constant and sustained multiple deadly attacks by heartless, venomous, and hydra-headed Boko Haram terrorists who are always heavily armed with assorted sophisticated and dangerous weapons unleashing their horror on our innocent populace.”
