• Says Christians Can’t be Relegated

From John Adams, Minna

Ahead of the March 18th rescheduled governorship and House of Assembly elections, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger state has set criteria for Christians in the state on Candidates to vote for, urging them to only vote for Candidates who Identify with the Christendom and has shown a sense of belonging to all faith in the State.

The Christian body in a statement in Minna on Sunday by the Media Aide to the CAN Chairman, Mr. Dan Atori and made available to newsmen, said “This is the time to look out for those who have respect for the body of Christ as a show of equity, fairness, partnership and peaceful coexistence in the State”.

CAN in the statement pointed out that the Candidates and Parties have done their own, adding that “it is now our turn to do our own”
While reminding Christians in the state to know the different between the day and the night, CAN made it clear that Christians can not be relegated in the state.

Part of the statement reads; “By now, we should all know the difference between day and night but let it be known that Christians can not be relegated, we are as important as everyone and our votes must count”.

The CAN Chairman disclosed that these decisions were taken after due consultation and collaboration with the National body where it was agreed that, in the 2023 gubernatorial elections, electorates must in addition to these, consider the character, competency, capacity and policies of the candidates before deciding who among the gubernatorial candidates to be voted into power.

While commending Christians for coming out en mass to exercise your franchise during the Presidential and National Assembly elections, the statement urged them not to be discouraged by the outcome of the February 25th polls but to come out on March 18 to vote in Candidates of your choice.

“We did our beat as electorates but we still have a hurdle to jump over. The Governorship and State House of Assembly elections will take place this coming weekend 18th March, 2023 and everyone is enjoined to come out to vote candidates of your choice.

“Finally, the CAN encourage everyone to pray for the success of the elections. Prayers to be observed at least on any of these days before the election, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday by groups, Churches, families and individuals”.
