The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have confirmed the exit of Finidi George after two games in charge as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

Finidi was unveiled as the coach of the 2023 AFCON silver-winning Super Eagles in April, as the permanent replacement for Jose Peseiro, who the former Nigerian international worked with as an assistant coach for 20 months.

In the wake of the 2-1 shocking defeat to the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in Abidjan, the former Enyimba coach came under much scrutiny following Nigeria’s embarrassing poor run in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The fear of not making it to the Mundial in the United States, Mexico and Canada, has forced the NFF to take a decision to hire a foreign Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles.

According to our source at the NFF Secretariat on Saturday, “The football legend has tendered his resignation letter late Friday which he sent via an email to the NFF.

“ He then informed that he would bring the hard copy of the letter in person after the Sallah break.

“His decision to quit his job, boils to the fact that he doesn’t want to work as an Head Coach under a foreign Technical Adviser, thus been relegated to an assistant-a former role he played under Peseiro.”

Meanwhile, Finidi’s two results extended Nigeria’s winless run in the qualifiers having previously played two draws under former coach Jose Peseiro.

Nigeria is now 5th above only Zimbabwe in the Group C qualification log with 3points and four points behind Rwanda, South Africa and Lesotho.
