Please beware of the new trick that fraudsters are using to defraud unwary bank customers. Recently, somebody called me with this phone number, 0706****545 (four digits concealed by Sunday Sun), and told me he was registering online for a certain service and mistakenly typed my number into the online form. He said that my number looked similar to his and that the password of what he registered for was sent to my phone. Actually saw the number sent to my phone: 6310.

He appealed that I should forward the reset code sent to my phone to him, so that he could complete the registration process. I told him to call me with the number he claimed was similar to mine so that I could verify his claim. He said that he did not have airtime on his phone.

I went online to learn more, and was horrified to discover that he was actually trying to reset my bank online/yahoomail password. Clearly he was a fraudster and account hacker. In other words, 419ner! If I had given him the code which was sent to my phone, he would have used it to reset my bank online/mobile app account.
