Senator Aliyu Wadada, representing Nasarwa West in Nasarawa State, has called on leaders of ethnic nationalities across Nigeria to champion unity and peaceful coexistence for the betterment of the nation.

Speaking at the TIv Cultural and Traditional festival in Imom village yesterday in Obi Local Government Area, of Nasarawa- state, Senator Wadada emphasized the crucial role traditional and ethnic leaders play in fostering genuine unity amidst diversity.

He asserted, “The drive towards sustainable genuine unity in the diversity of Nigeria depends largely on the roles of traditional and ethnic leaders if they are committed to promoting peace, tolerance, and respect for their values and norms.”

Highlighting the importance of good governance and development, Senator Wadada stressed the need for leaders to actively engage in politics that prioritize justice, equality, and the provision of opportunities for all.

He stated, “Leaders must engage the people in politics of good governance, justice, and provision of equal opportunities as part of steps towards deepening democracy to entrench peace.”

Former Executive Secretary of Nigeria Shippers Council, Mr. Emmanuel Jime, echoed Senator Wadada’s sentiments, urging the Tiv community in Nasarawa State to prioritize the education of the girl child as a means to combat early marriage and other societal vices hindering progress.

As a guest speaker at the event, Mr. Jime emphasized the importance of political unity, encouraging people to view their membership in different political parties as avenues for development rather than sources of division. He remarked, “We must play politics devoid of divisive tendencies and see our membership in different political parties as sources of development rather than tools for separation.”

The call for unity and development resonated strongly with attendees, who expressed their commitment to fostering peace and progress within their communities. As Nigeria continues to navigate various challenges, leaders like Senator Wadada and Mr. Jime emphasize the indispensable role of unity and cooperation in overcoming obstacles and building a brighter future for all.
