• Officials visit Kenyang, Owenu mining sites to ensure sustainable development

Kwanta Yakubu, Commissioner of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resource, accompanied by Permanent Secretary Rosha Garba Muhammad, directors, and staff members, recently conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the Kenyang and Owenu mining sites.

During the visit yesterday at the mining site, the commissioner said the primary objective of the visit was to strengthen the state’s mining sector and ensure its improved performance.

Daily Sun gathered that the ministry had received complaints from various stakeholders regarding Kenyang Company’s intention to expand its mining area. This prompted the visit, aimed at guaranteeing the preservation of existing peace for sustainable development.

Commissioner Kwanta emphasized the investor-friendly approach of Governor Abdullahi Sule, highlighting the importance of considering the interests of all parties, including future generations, when conducting business. He called for understanding and collaboration among stakeholders.

In a show of appreciation, Kwanta commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for creating an enabling environment for mining activities, particularly in terms of security, and urged continued support for the government.

Before their visit to the mining sites, the team paid a visit to Osu Ajiri’s Palace, represented by Sarkin Fada Aminu Obagu, who commended the Nasarawa state government for its intervention and pledged to work towards sustaining peace in the area. Youth leader Ismail Dan-Ajiya of Udege Mbeki echoed the traditional ruler’s stance.

At the Kenyang mining site, Mr Miller Xu, the manager of the mining company, expressed their commitment to achieving an amicable resolution in all grey areas for the sake of sustainable peace. He also extended gratitude to the Nasarawa State government for meeting their expectations.
