The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is gearing up to mark its 60th anniversary with a series of events highlighting its steadfast service and contributions to Nigeria’s defence.

The theme of the commemorative event, “Nigerian Air Force at 60: Leveraging Strategic Partnerships in Aerospace Innovations for Regional Security,” reflects its commitment to collaboration and innovation in enhancing regional security.

A statement from the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet  said the  celebration, scheduled from May 14th to May 25th, 2024, will feature a diverse range of activities aimed at honoring the NAF’s legacy and fostering dialogue and cooperation within the aerospace industry.

The high point of the celebration. he pointed out,  includes a two-day International Conference and Exhibition, running alongside the Third Edition of the African Air Forces Forum in Abuja on May 23rd and 24th. This conference will bring together Chiefs of Air Staff from various countries, defense, aviation, and aerospace industry leaders, as well as other stakeholders to discuss advancing aviation capabilities in Africa.

He said that the culmination of the anniversary celebrations will be the Ceremonial Parade and Aerial Display at the NAF Base in Kaduna on May 25th, 2024. This event will pay tribute to the NAF’s fallen heroes, surviving veterans, and its dedication to serving the nation. Additionally, attendees can expect engaging activities such as Research & Development competitions, medical outreaches, combat sports competitions, and a flying-out parade honoring recently retired senior NAF officers.

In a bid to ensure the events meet international standards while optimizing costs, the NAF is collaborating with esteemed partners and sponsors locally and internationally. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to honoring the NAF’s legacy and advancing the defense and aviation industry in Nigeria, Africa, and beyond.
