…Begins mobilisation for relief materials

An Islamic organisation, Supreme Council for Shari’a in Nigeria (SCSN), has registered its discontent with the “unclear position” of the Federal Government on the “terror” being unleashed on the people of Palestine by Israel.

The Council said they are particularly concerned that the Federal Government has neither spoken (condemned) on the attack nor called on the United States, the United Nations and other world powers to quickly put an end to the bombardment and destruction by Israeli’s forces.

It further asked the Federal Government to emulate the Government and opposition party in South Africa that condemned the military actions of Israel, and in addition to that, strengthen its leadership position in Africa as witnessed during the Murtala Administration, by being in the forefront in the struggle for the liberation of the oppressed people of Palestine and other places such as Myanmar, Kashmir, China and India.

President of SCSN, Sheikh AbdurRasheed Hadiyyatullah, at a press conference in Abuja, on Thursday, accused the international community of failing to address the root cause of the conflict largely because the United States has consistently offered unconditional support to Israel to strengthen its intentions to occupy Palestine.

He was unhappy that the United Nations, which could not stop the establishment of the Zionist State of Israel in Palestine thus guaranteering the right of Palestinians to self-determination and their existence as human beings, but has passed resolutions that have been consistently violated by the State of Israel.

He said: “SCSN is deeply saddened and outraged by Israel bombardments on Gaza, and strongly condemned the most recent singular act of the US as it has always done for vetoing the UN Resolution calling for humanitarian pauses in Gaza war that would facilitate passage of aid to Gaza.

“It is in this light that SCSN is calling on the UN and the international community to stop this hypocrisy, and immediately apply international law equally on every nation, and also pursue the rrealisation of the two states solution in Palestine diligently, so as to bring to an end, the bloodshed and suffering in that part of the world.”

He demanded that Federal Government should urgently review and possibly suspend its relations with Israel until it respects international law and the rights of Palestinians.

The SCSN President, however, said it has commenced mobilisation for relief materials for the besieged Palestinians who are in dire need of food, clothing, medicine and other essentials, soliciting the support of the Federal Government as well as Nigerians of different faith in the mobilisation for relief materials.

He called on Nigerian humanitarian organisations and all Mosques to mobilise assistance to the distressed people of Palestine, while all Muslims and people of other faiths are expected to offer special prayers invoking Allah, The Most High, to come to the aid of the Palestinians and all oppressed people of the world.
