A major step towards revolutionizing teaching and learning at the tertiary level of education has been taken by Telecom giant MTN, Chinese-based Huawei Technology and Nigeria’s Baze University by signing a Memorandum of Understanding to deploy 5G technology as the innovative game changer.

To this end, MTN, on Wednesday launched the MTN-Baze University 5G2Business, an innovation designed to allow the institution to leverage fifth-generation technology to transform learning and administration.

Speaking at the event, the chief enterprise business officer at MTN, Lynda Saint-Nwafor, described 5G as the next frontier in technology that would jump-start growth in industries, boost, birth and nurture innovation.

According to her, the partnership between MTN, Baze University and Huawei will redesign the varsity education ecosystem using 5G and ultimately take learning, business and administration to the next level.

“The synergy with this tripartite partnership is a transformative force that propels us toward a future where education knows no boundaries. This is a testament to what can be achieved when visionary organizations come together with a shared purpose,”, she said.

In her remarks at the event, Baze University’s acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kathleen Okafor, described the tripartite deal as a door opener leading to creative access to quality education.

She said the initiative would unpack the full applicability of 5G, which offers faster internet connectivity to boost academic and administrative activities.

In addition to the above, students are expected to latch on the 5G offerings to catalyse learning as it would be easier for lecturers to upload videos without voice loss for virtual learning.

The acting VC, while appreciating MTN and Huawei for partnering with Baze University, noted the initiative would enhance its smart classroom concept and reduce course durations through ready access to lecture notes, especially for online programmes.

Okafor said,” The institution will strengthen lectures, course works, assignment sharing and instant feedback from students.

“The new programme will ensure that online learning creates smooth holographic access.

“It enables teachers to give quizzes online and conduct on-the-spot assessments. Virtual laboratories can work efficiently. Provide real-time solutions. An instructor can teach different classes at the same time; instructors can engage students and monitor the engagement,” she said.

Also speaking, Joey Wu, Key Account Director of Huawei Technologies Company Nigeria Limited said the partnership was a visionary journey meant to redefine the landscape of education in Nigeria.

“The 5G Education Plan of BAZE University is not just a plan; it’s a bold step into the future.

But it doesn’t stop there. BAZE University, with the support of MTN and Huawei, is building a 5G campus that goes beyond imagination.

“Let us reflect on the immense potential that 5G technology brings to education and businesses alike. It is not merely about faster internet speeds; it is about unlocking opportunities, fostering innovation, connecting people and ideas like never before,” he explained.
