Middle Belt Youth Coalition (MBYC) has accused the executive arm of government of a deliberate effort to ridicule the institution of the National Assembly.
The youths justified their claim with an unending attacks on the institution of the Senate and the personality of some senators who might have spoken up against the government.
National Coordinator of the group, Abbah Emmanuel, told journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday that the recent implication of Senate President Bukola Saraki in the Offa bank robbery by the police was an indication that the executive has risen against the institution of the National Assembly and its members.
The youths alleged that the recent arrest of senators Dino Melaye, Peter Nwaoboshi, and Danjuma Goje, were orchestrated by the executive, perhapsto intimidate the lawmakers.
He also alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was being used as a tool to oppress and threaten these senators and other political opponents.
The youths were particularly unhappy with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, for his alleged unprofessional conduct against the institution of the National Assembly.
They were concerned that the police was yet to arrest and punish the thugs that invaded the National Assembly and made away with the Mace and also attacked senators, but had descended on senators and other political opponents.
“The IGP was recently asked to appear on the Senate floor to address the senators on issues of insecurity and incessant killings in Nigeria, but he refused to honour the invitation, and rather championed a campaign to ridicule and disgrace the lawmakers,” the group said.
The youths expressed worry that Nigeria is fast tilting towards anarchy if the fight between the executive and legislative arm of government is not resolved as quickly as possible.
