President Bola Tinubu recently confirmed the appointment of Emomotimi Agama as the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Here are a few things to know about the new SEC boss.
Agama brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise, spanning over three decades in various financial roles.Agama holds an honors degree in accounting from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology Port-Harcourt, as well as a master’s degree in banking and finance and another Master of Science degree in economics from the University of Benin.

He also holds a PhD in economics with distinction from the Nile University of Nigeria, with a focus on the impact of cryptocurrency operations on macroeconomic variables in Nigeria.

Additionally, Agama possesses a Graduate Certificate in Capital Markets from George Washington University. He has furthered his education with various certifications, including The Advanced Risk Management Certificate from the University College London and PRMIA, as well as graduate programs in Strategic Enterprise Analysis and PRINCE 2 Project Management from the SEEC, York University, Toronto, Canada.

He has also completed the fintech law and policy program at Duke University, USA.
Agama’s professional journey includes pivotal roles such as Managing Director of the Nigerian Capital Market Institute and Head of Registration, Exchanges, and Market Infrastructure at the SEC.

He has also served as a Secondee to the US Securities and Exchange Commission in 2018.As a Fellow of the International Finance Corporation (IFC)-Milken Institute Capital Market Programme and a Senior Fellow of the Risks Management Association of Nigeria, Agama has actively contributed to shaping industry standards and regulations.
His involvement in committees such as the SEC Disciplinary Committee and the Regulatory Oversight Committee underscores his commitment to promoting transparency and integrity within the financial sector.

Agama’s leadership extends beyond managerial positions, as he has also served as a standing faculty member in various capacities. His expertise covers resource optimization, financial management, project and risk management, and strategy formulation.

In addition to his academic and professional achievements, Agama is a regional executive member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) UK and Chairman of the Purity Rose Orphanage Home Board of Trustees.
