Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State has been garlanded for his timely release of three years’ accrued counterpart funds, for the commencement of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), a World Bank initiative.

State Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Dr. Ifeyinwa Elizabeth Nnajieze, who disclosed in Enugu that the Governor recently released N60million, expressed the optimism that the project, to be localized within the state, will play a pivotal role in realizing the administration’s vision of positioning Enugu as a leading state in Nigeria in terms of Gross Domestic Product and achieving a zero percent poverty headcount index.

She explained that the L-PRES is a collaborative effort between the World Bank and Nigeria, aimed at enhancing livestock production, value addition, and technological interventions throughout the livestock value-chain: “This proposed 6-year project will align with the government’s new policy direction and reinforce state priorities by boosting livestock productivity, attracting youth and private sector participation in livestock farming, and strengthening crisis management systems for the livestock sub-sector.”

The state coordinator noted the importance of the Governor’s commitment to ensuring the successful delivery of the project across the state and reiterated her determination to making Enugu a benchmark for other states in the country.

She also assured that the project’s benefits would be far-reaching: “With our Governor’s timely intervention, we will get the work done and make it very effective within the next six years.”
