A chieftan of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Mr. Boniface Igwe, has described as non-issue, the recent resignation of Mr.Livinus Makwe from the PDP.

Makwe is a former lawmaker who represented Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 2019-2023.

Mr. Makwe and six Local Government Chairmen of the party in the state recently resigned from the opposition party.

But reacting, Mr. Boniface Igwe, and Mr.Emmanuel Uka who was the party’s local government campaign council Chairman in Ivo LGA during the 2023 elections, said the party remains intact despite their resignations.

Igwe, a strong disciple of Dr IfeanyiChukwuma Odii, the PDP governorship candidate in the March 18 election argued that those who recently resigned their membership actually worked against the party’s interest during the election, adding that their resignations did not come as a surprise to the party.

“Well, I don’t think that the news is a surprise because the concerned chairmen were known not to have worked for our party during the last general election and as such we are not losing any sleep over this so-called resignation.

” They only confirmed what we already knew by formally tendering their resignations as party chairmen in their respective LGAs, and the party has moved on.

” So, this issue of resignation and planned defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is a mere distraction”

But in his reaction, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state,Stanley Okoro-Emegha, said the ruling party will be happy to welcome those who resigned from PDP into the APC.
