Social and economic activities in Maiduguri, Borno State’s capital have been shut down ahead of President Mohammadu Buhari’s visit.

Major roads, markets and business areas were closed as early as 8:00a.m, on Wednesday.

The management of Maiduguri Monday market, a regional market would not open until 1:00p.m. according to the management.

In a statement by the Commissioner of Information, Dr. Mohammed Bulama urged residents to welcome the president who is scheduled to arrive Maiduguri at about 11:30am and declare open the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference which was originally slated for Benin, Edo State.

“On arrival at 11.30a.m, Mr. President will proceed to the Palace of His Royal Highness, the Shehu of Borno to pay the Monarch a courtesy call. He shall thereafter proceed to the venue of the Conference at an army event centre near the Cantonement.

He is also expected to speak to troops deployed to the Operation Lafiya Dole at the Operation headquarters within the Cantonment.

President Buhari’s visit came barely two weeks after Boko Haram raided a military base in remote Metele community around the Lake Chad area. Scores of soldiers were killed in the attack coming after about 12 other attacks in three months.
