Commercial tricycle operators, otherwise called Keke riders, and Bakassi returnees are among the distinguished Nigerians invited for a town hall meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji. Lai Mohammed.

The event scheduled for states in the south/south geo-political zone of Nigeria will hold at the prestigious Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort by 10 on Monday.

A release on the event from the office of the information minister through the State National Orientation Agency and the Ministry of Information and Communications, made available to Daily Sun on Sunday, said the town hall meeting is part of measures by the federal government to communicate policies, programmes and activities of the present administration to the people.

Signed by the permanent secretary, Akwa Ibom State ministry of information, Mr Praise Okon, meeting is also aimed at sensitising the people on what government is doing, the challenges it is facing and the way forward as well as providing a platform for meaningful interaction with citizens.

“Indications are that, the Hon. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed is to be accompanied to the South/South town hall meeting by the Hon. Minister of Transportation, the Hon. Minister of Environment, the Hon. Minister of State for Petroleum, the Hon. Minister of Niger Delta and the Hon. Minister of Budget and National Planning, among others.

“Accordingly, special invitation is given to distinguished senators. Hon. Members, House of Representatives, State Houses of Assembly members, representatives of major political parties, traditional rulers, representatives of market men and women as well as representatives of youth organizations. Others are; all labour and professional unions and groups including, the National Association of Nigeria students, Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, NULGE, ALGON, NUPENG, NCWS and the Keke NAPEP Riders, among others.

“Also invited are Media houses, Print and Electronic, NUJ, NAWOJ, the Nigeria Legion, CAN, Jama-atul Nasril Islam, BAKASSI Returnees association, Association of physically challenged persons and Chairmen of local government caretaker committees,” the release said.
