Newly appointed executives of the Labour Party in the Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State were inaugurated yesterday ahead of local government and councilorship elections scheduled for December.

Speaking after the inauguration, Mr John Onyebukwu Uche, Senior Special Adviser on Political and Social Affairs to Honourable Okey-Joe Onuakalusi, member representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II in the Federal House of Representatives, said: “Ahead of our congress, the executives would work for three months, after which those eligible to run for the party primaries would emerge.

“After three months, we shall package those who would go for primaries ahead of the coming local government elections. We remain optimistic in the coming polls; our house is intact. We took Lagos by surprise in the last election; this time, we shall take them by surprise again,” he asserted.

Similarly, the leader of the party’s women’s wing, Mrs Commie Uyanna, urged women and youths to remain steadfast, resilient, and focused despite bandwagons and sponsored agents raising dust in the body politic.

“We are canvassing grassroots campaigns ahead of the coming elections. Women should have a formidable team, as well as the youths. We should not be discouraged; the Labour Party is the people’s party,” she admonished.

The party chairman for the constituency, Mr Remigus Agu, implored all party members in the local government to cooperate with the leadership across wards, give every moral support, and remain optimistic even as economic deprivation worsens.

“The entire Labour Party is in support of this inauguration. We must remain one formidable house. The Holy Bible says, ‘A house divided against itself cannot stand’. We need one house to achieve our noble objectives,” he maintained.

He confirmed the names of the inaugurated officers as follows: Bishop Remigus Agu, Chairman; Chidi Asobi Peter, Vice Chairman 1; Adeyemi Oluwatoyin Yusuf, Vice Chairman 2; Mustapha Nojim, Vice Chairman 3; Ayodele Obelenge, Secretary; Chime Anibogu Joseph, Organising Secretary; Addulakeem Babatunde, Education Secretary; Uche Emmanuel, Welfare Secretary; Walter Ukaga, Publicity Secretary; Emmanuel Ibe, Youth Leader; Onyema Kenneth, Treasurer; Commie Uyanna, Woman Leader; Richard Oru, Auditor; and Barrister Peter Eno Obong, Legal Adviser.
