Kwara state government at the weekend assured newly posted corps members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to the state of adequate security and welfare during their stay.

Speaking at the swearing in ceremony of the 2023 batch “A” stream 1 corps members of the NYSC posted to the state at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area at the weekend, chairman state NYSC governing board, Olabode Towoju, said that security and welfare of the corps members are the utmost concern of the state government.

Towoju also said that members of the governing board shall ensure that the corps members are posted to areas where their services are mostly needed, while assuring them that their contributions to the development of their host communities would be rewarded as at when due.

He also expressed optimism that the corps members would continue to remain in high spirits throughout the orientation course and the entire service year.

“Let me on this note appreciate your predecessors who not only served selflessly but also left a lasting legacy in their host communities.

“As you continue with the orientation exercise, I implore you to make humanity, discipline and commitment your watchword and justify the efforts of NYSC governing board members in particular and state government in
general.

Earlier in her speech, the NYSC Director General,Mrs Christy Ifeyinwa Uba appreciating the state government for the commencement of perimeter fencing of the orientation camp.
Represented by State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Fransisca Olaleye charged the prospective corps members, while commending their eagerness and readiness to serve your fatherland, I wish to intimate you with the fact that orientation time-table is loaded with programmes and activities that are mandatory for all participating corps members.
“For a successful orientation exercise I further enjoin all the course participants to comport themselves in a disciplined and orderly manner. As you have been informed in my briefing last night, always remember that camp life is highly regimented and you must abide by all rules and regulations of the authority.
Despite the regimentation, lots of exciting moments have been provided for your enjoyment and relaxation.

“Permit me at this juncture to appeal to all prospective employers of corps members who submitted their requests to make adequate preparation for the arrival of these vibrant youths by providing accommodation and
other welfare facilities in order for them to put in their best in the course of service year.

“At this point I wish to once again appreciate His Excellency for his prompt response to our request on the Perimeter fencing of the camp to bring it to a secured level.

“Like Oliver twist, we are still appealing to the state government and all stakeholders for more hostels facilities on camp.

“We also use this opportunity to plead with His Excellency to encourage the 18 local government Chairmen in the State to make their presence felt in the camp by erecting structures and projects which would be named after them to ease the accommodation problem faced in the camp by corps members and all camp officials. I am equally calling on all the well meaning citizens of kwara State to contribute towards this noble gesture of transforming Kwara NYSC Camp.

“We shall always be indebted to our Royal Fathers in the State for their fatherly care to our corps members in their domain. Our hosts, the Estu of Tsaragi is also recognized for being our dependable father. We pray for long life and peaceful reign.”
