The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kebbi State has commenced de-registration of non-Nigerians, deceased, under aged and multiple registrations, whose names appeared in the Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) in the state.
The Resident Electoral Commission (REC) in the state, Alhaji Ahmed Mahmud, disclosed this in Birnin Kebbi, yesterday and also, said the Commission received 178,928 PVCs from their headquarters, Abuja.
Mahmud said the commission would commence the display of National Register of Voters across all the 2,398 polling units in the state today, ahead of the 2019 general elections.
“The INEC has approved the display of the national register of voters at all the 2,398 polling units in Kebbi state, from Tuesday, November 6, to Monday, November 12, 2018, for hearing of claims and objections with the same period, in preparation for the 2019 general elections,” he said.

Mahmud said the objective of the exercise is to remove the deceased registered voters, non Nigerians, registrants with still pictures, under aged voters as well as multiple registrants.
“The commission has also received a total of 178,928 PVCs from INEC national headquarters Abuja, as at October 30, 2018; the collection of PVCs by the registrants is ongoing at INEC offices across the state,” he said.
REC advised residents in the state to take the exercise seriously, in order to assist the commission in the clean-up of the voters’ register.
He added that about four petitions were received by the commission against few House of Representatives’ candidates who emerged in various parties’ primaries. Regardless, he said the party has 79 presidential candidates, 46 for Senate and 74 for House of Representatives candidates contesting in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.
