Three weeks after he sacked his former Commissioner for Education Prof. Halimatu Sa’adiyya, Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State, on Monday, swore-in Dr. Badamasi Lawal Charanchi as the new education commissioner.

Until his appointment, Charanchi was Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Higher Education.

“Dr. Badamasi, the challenge before you is to reposition the education sector because the desire of my administration is to have more productive teachers in the state,” Governor Masari told the new commissioner at a ceremony at the Government House, in Katsina.

The governor urged Charanchi to be transparent and accountable in the discharge of his duties and look inwards towards improving the education sector of the state.

As he puts it, “Therefore, you are advised to abide by the oath of office, to be transparent, prudent and just, to contribute your quota to the development of the state and the country at large. You must provide the much needed dividends of democracy to our people.”

The governor commended members of the state’s House of Assembly for ensuring the successful screening and confirmation of the new Commissioner.

Masari had removed the former Commissioner explaining that his administration needed to recruit  “more active politicians,” especially with the approach of the scheduled 2019 general elections.
