Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has allocated an additional N5 billion for the disbursement of a second instalment of pension and gratuity to retired workers in the state.

A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, yesterday indicated that the decision was announced by the Governor at the 14th State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House, Kano

Last year, the governor disbursed N6 billion to settle outstanding payments for thousands of retirees in the state.

He stressed that the payments were made to support retirees and bring joy to their lives, as many had endured years of waiting without receiving their rightful dues despite their dedicated service to the state during their working years.

“We are dedicated to ensuring the well-being of civil servants and retirees in the state,” the Governor said.

Yusuf also discussed preparations for the forth-coming rainy season in the state, and instructed the interim management officers of local governments to make adequate arrangements ahead of the rainy season.

Following the deliberations, a high-powered committee, led by the Deputy Governor, has been established to oversee the de-silting of drainages across all the 44 local governments to prevent flooding during the rainy season.

The Governor also urged the people of the state to be patient as the government works tirelessly to address the challenges of water scarcity in the state, despite facing mechanical issues and inconsistent power supply that hinder the smooth operation of the state water board.
