Some residents of Gwagwarwa Community in Nassarawa Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano State have protested the alleged killing of a 23-year-old hospital cleaner, Yusuf Shaiubu, in Kano.

They took to the street at the weekend, briefly blocking vehicular traffic along the Airport Road while demanding justice for the deceased. The father of the deceased, Bala Shuaibu, while speaking to journalists, recalled that his late son worked as a cleaner with the Nigerian Air Force Hospital, in Kano.

He explained that his son had an encounter with his boss, one Oga Aminu, over his failure to perform a task, alleging that the said Oga Aminu attacked him and left visible marks on his body after the confrontation.

“Yusuf later returned home and reported the incident to his friends and family. Tragically, when his brother checked on him the following day, he discovered Yusuf’s lifeless body in his room,” he alleged.

The deceased father, therefore, appealed to the  Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, the National Human Rights Commission, and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, to intervene and ensure justice for his son.

When journalists in Kano contacted NAF’s Director, Public Relations and Information, Edward Gabkwet, he said: “The Chief of Air Staff has been briefed about the incident and is saddened by the loss. He has ordered an investigation to uncover the cause of Mr. Yusuf’s unfortunate demise.

The commanders of the hospital and NAF Base Kano have also been directed to extend his condolences to the family of the deceased.

“The NAF will do everything to uncover the circumstances that led to his death.” he stated.
