Former Abia State governor, Dr. Orji Kalu, has urged Nigerians to be selfless and patriotic in their daily pursuits.

The ex-governor, while urging Christian faithful to use the Christmas season to touch lives positively, charged people at the helm to be responsive to the plight of the people. Kalu, who acknowledged the giant strides of the ‎President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, added that Nigeria is gradually taking its rightful place in the comity of nations. In his Christmas message signed by his Special Adviser, Kunle Oyewumi, Kalu said, “as we witness and celebrate this year’s Yuletide, let’s use this opportunity to reflect on our individual lives in the service of God and humanity. “The ideals of Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Holy Bible should be sustained beyond the festivity.

“In view of the multi-religious nature of Nigeria, the need for mutual respect among believers of different religious denominations cannot be overemphasized.

“We must continue to live in peace regardless of our ethnic, religious and cultural diversity.

“It is only in an atmosphere of peace that Nigeria can realize its full potential.

Kalu used the opportunity to call on Nigerians to continue to support the present administration, adding that the Nigeria project should be paramount to all stakeholders regardless of political affiliation.

He added, “For Nigeria to attain enviable heights, both the government and citizenry must complement each other.

“We must uphold the laws of the land in all our endeavours.”

The former governor also used the occasion to caution ‎politicians against inflammatory statements, stressing that the collective interest of Nigerians remains paramount.
