Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA), has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister political parties going into coalition or merger.

APDA Chairman, Shittu Sani, who stated this yesterday at the screening of aspirants, noted that political parties going into merger lacked political philosophy and ideology capable of fostering the dividends of democracy.

His words: “Any party going into alliance or coalition means that they don’t have any regard for democratic culture and that party should be deregistered.

“We should nurture our political party system in such a way that it is philosophical and based on ideology. Ideology should drive political parties. The issue of coalition should not be based on personal grounds and if it is, then I will urge INEC to deregister those parties that means they don’t have anything to offer to Nigeria,” he noted.

On the screening of aspirants, Sani said it was a move for the party to project credible and qualify candidates to Nigerians ahead of the 2019 general election
