At the recent Inspector General of Police (IGP) Conference in Abuja, Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, Mr Aderemi Adeoye, said the command arrested 20 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers and rescued 10 victims in three months: “We have charged them to court to face the wrath of the law. Over 300 machine guns and 34 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition for AK47 rifles, were recovered in their camp in Achalla, Awka North Local Government.

“Anambra State is too hot for criminals to operate. We have dealt with armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists. Police in Ogidi and Umuoji vigilantes apprehended the suspected killers of president general of Umuoji and arrested four suspects, recovered handset and ATM card of the deceased.”

He tasked his officers to tackle hoodlums: “Suspected kidnappers and armed robbers were arrested in the process. Eight victims were rescued in their hideouts at Achalla, Enugwu-Agidi and Igboukwu in Aguata LG.

“The command  is in good form to chase hoodlums out of the state. We will ensure adequate security and effective visibility patrols, widen all channels of intelligence gathering and unveil security tips. Citizens should be law abiding as adequate security arrangements have been put in place in liaison with other security agencies to ensure the security of life and property.

“Operatives at Abagana had an encounter with kidnappers who abducted four victims, who they rescued in their hideouts. Three suspects were arrested and recovered weapons from them.

“Also the police at Bridgehead in Onitsha arrested a couple trafficking one month old baby from Lagos. The information got to the police and they swung into action. Police laid wait for the luxury bus and intercepted them in the evening hours. The couple and the stolen baby were identified for questioning and arrested. They confessed buying the child from its mother in Ajah, Lagos, for N30,000.”

Adeoye directed that the couple be handed over to the National Agency for Prohibition in Trafficking of persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and prosecution.

“Ten suspected armed robbers were arrested at a checkpoint along Igboukwu in Aguta LG. Recovered were Berreta pistol, dagger and pump action.  The Special Crack Squad (SCS) foiled a robbery incident and neutralised one of the hoodlums at Ihiala axis. They attempted to rob a victim’s sons and daughters who returned from the diaspora.

“SCS operatives professionally engaged in flushing criminal elements out of Ihiala and neighbouring communities like Issese, LiIu, Orsumoghu and Azia from their hideouts. We don’t want to take any chance. The state is calm and peaceful. All suspects will soon appear in court.”
