Pop star Shakira has voiced her admiration for Afrobeats and African music, naming Nigerian singer Burna Boy as a source of inspiration.
Like Burna Boy, South African Tyla is another Grammy Award-winning African singer who has caught the Colombian star’s attention.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Shakira described her music taste as eclectic, honest and real.
“If I could explain my taste in music in three words, I would say eclectic, honest and real. I love anything Afrobeats. I like Tyla, I like Burna Boy, anything Afrobeats. But I love Burna so much,” Shakira said.
Often referred to as the Queen of Latin Music, the 47-year-old star sampled the popular Cameroonian song “Zangaléwa” by Golden Sounds in her 2010 FIFA World Cup anthem “Waka, Waka (This Time For Africa)”.
