The Lagos State Police Command has identified the man that shot dead a 45-year old Toyin Eniafe, at the NNPC filling station, Obalende Roundabouts, Lagos on Wednesday as a policeman.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state, Benjamin Hundeyin, made this known in a statement he issued on Friday.

According to him, “The person behind the shooting has been identified as a police officer, serving at Special Protection Unit (SPU), Base 1, Lion Building, Lagos.

“Investigation is still ongoing and further findings will be made available. Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command is working with the family of the deceased to ensure that there is no miscarriage of justice.”

Hundeyin had said the incident occurred at about 8.08 p.m. on Wednesday when some security personnel, numbering about four, went to NNPC filling station, Obalende Roundabouts, to buy fuel.

An eyewitness of the shooting, Gabriel Ugbana, said: “We were at the filling station on the queue, waiting for our turn. Suddenly, the security operatives came in two patrol vehicles, without number plates and attempted to forcefully enter the station. But they were told to respect the queue. Rather than respect the people’s opinions, the operatives started intimidating us.

“The people, who were already waiting for the products were not happy with the operatives and this led to a serious argument between the deceased and the operatives, before he was shot by the overzealous personnel.”
