From Laide Raheem, Abeokuta

A Nigeria-based cyber security expert, Omowunmi Oyetinbo, has disclosed how the nation can be one of the highest producers of cyber security professionals in the world and earn large foreign exchange, as a way to save the country from its present economic doldrums.

According to Oyetinbo, Nigeria could become a giant in the cyber security global industry if the government, relevant private organisations, and individuals were ready partners to invest more in the requisite training and provision of technology infrastructures to empower the teeming Nigerian youth as cyber security professionals.

Oyetinbo, who is the head of operations, Wellspring Consulting, made this known while speaking with newsmen at the sidelines of a one-day cyber security seminar held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

She harped on the private-public partnership in the specialised ICT sector, and described cyber security as the practice of defending computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks, and data from malicious attacks. She said: “Nigeria faces a critical shortage of cyber security professionals, while there is high demand for the professionals globally.”

She noted that her firm was well grounded in training cyber security professionals, who would open doors to endless career possibilities in the ever evolving tech-industry, both locally and globally.

“Wellspring Consulting is set to partner various organisations to sponsor young Nigerians, especially young women, in building a career in cyber security.

“The firm offers training and free global certification with a globally ranked IT security organisation,” she said.

Oyetinbo, however, assured that any investment or training in cybersecurity would yield bountifully for Nigeria.
