The goalkeeper of Heartland FC of Owerri, Ebere Obi, on Tuesday said that he was happy that the club overcame its crisis and emerged stronger and united.

Obi, a younger brother to the Super Eagles Captain, John Mikel Obi, made the assertion when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri.

He spoke against the backdrop of the lingering crisis between the club’s Chairman Goodfaith Otuemena and the club’s Supervisor Ugonna Ozuruigbo.

He said that resolving the misunderstanding between the management members of the club relegated after the 2015/2016 from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), strengthened it for challenges in the Nigeria National League (NNL).

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo had appointed the Deputy Speaker of Imo House of Assembly, Ugonna Ozuruigbo, as the club’s supervisor following its relegation to the lower league.

The appointment led to serious crisis in the management of the club and brought division among the top management team.

It will be recalled that Ozuruigbo, who took possession of Heartland Office at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, recruited a new coach for the club.

On the other hand, Etuemena maintained his office at Ikemba Ojukwu Centre with some of the management team members.

But Okorocha intervened in the crisis recently and directed that Otuemena be given free hand to operate.

Obi said he was happy that the crisis was over, adding that they would do everything possible to return to NPFL.

“We are now stronger, more focused and committed.

“The mistakes that led to relegation of this club will never repeat,’’ he said.
