Gunmen suspected to be feeling from attack from security agents have killed one member of the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency, ARTMA in Awka the state capital.

Daily Sun reports that the early morning attack resulting in the death of the road traffic agent was coming few hours after one person was gunned down at Aroma junction on Wednesday evening in the same hit-and-run way.

An eyewitness said the incident happened close to a motor park within the popular Unizik junction, where commuters ferry passengers from Awka to Nnewi.

The source further disclosed the victim met his untimely death when he tried to stop the assailants allegedly driving against traffic in a Toyota Sienna car when they shot him in the head.

“I think the man who was killed is an ARTMA official. He stopped some people who were driving a Toyota Sienna vehicle with tinted glasses, and the people shot him and drove off.

“It happened just close to me as I was boarding a vehicle this morning to go to Nnewi,” the source said.

Though there have been cult-related killings in Awka since Easter, it was not clear if Thursday morning incident was related to cultism.

It was however alleged that the assistants may have been irked by the audacious move of the deceased to flag them down leading to their missing their target in the early morning attack.

“I think they were trailing somebody and they followed one way so they could intercept him at the Kwata flyover but when the ARTMA guy stopped them, they lost their target whom they didn’t know which road he followed. That was when they went back and shot the guy and drove off immediately “

However, Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer officer, PPRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga could not be reached on phone as at the time of filing this report.
