The Concerned Advocate for Good Governance (CAGG) says it has commenced an action on behalf of Abba Kyari, the ex-head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), against corruption charges levelled against him by the United States’ Federal Bureau of Intelligence (FBI).

In a statement by the National President of the group, Segun Bamgbose, to reporters in Owerri, CAGG described the possible extradition of Kyari as a big challenge to the Nigeria Police Force.

Bamgbose urged the Federal Government not to abandon Kyari, who he described as one of the finest police officers Nigeria has ever produced. ‘It will be very unfortunate for Nigerians and the Federal Government to abandon him to his fate,’ he said.

‘No matter the evidence adduced by the FBI, he is still assumed innocent in the eyes of the law. The Federal Government should explore all diplomatic measures to resolve this matter. To err is human. When it comes to international relations, diplomacy is very crucial.

‘The truth remains that these developments could be the backlash of the wrong diplomatic moves by the Federal Government in most recent times. It will be damning and dangerous to forsake Abba Kyari at this trying time,’ Bamgbose stated.

Bamgbose, disclosing the extent his group has gone to prove the innocence of the ex-IRT boss, said that it has sorted for a reputable law firm from the United States of America(US) to defend him.

‘I have diligently consulted with about three notable law firms in the United States to give me their legal opinions on what can be done to formidably defend Abba Kyari.

‘One of the leading law firms in the US has replied to me. The law firm has gone ahead to send me the indictment against Abba Kyari and other details about the matter, which is about 26 pages. The reputable law firm, well-grounded on extradition issues, has assured me of their readiness to represent Abba Kyari’s interest even before he will be extradited to the United States.

‘The head of the US law firm has assured me he has what it takes to successfully defend Abba Kyari in the United States. In essence, there is a way out to rescue Abba Kyari. The contacted US Attorney has carefully studied the indictment against Abba Kyari and has concluded that all is not lost.

‘I want to urge the Police Service Commission and the office of the Inspector General of Police not to panic because Abba Kyari will be restored to his position. There is no cause for alarm because the contacted Attorney has vast experience in extradition matters.

‘The US Attorney has swung to action already. I have established contact with him. In a matter of days, I hope to meet Abba Kyari in person. We can’t give Abba Kyari up without a fight. This is not the best time to crucify Abba Kyari but to find a way out. As a trained lawyer, no case is hopeless.

In the same vein, Bamgbose has urged the Federal Government to resolve the issue of Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Igboho, according to him “No one is trying to cover up corruption but there must be fairness in terms of the trial.

‘The Federal Government should equally find a way to resolve the issue of Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho as quickly as possible. The West is monitoring the activities of the Federal Government as to what they will do to the two prominent agitators of Biafra and Oduduwa Republics,’ Bamgbose stated.
