Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state has led the state government’s delegation on a visit to the North-Eastern University, (former Pen Resource University) Gombe to inspect the facilities and academic programs offered by the institution. During his visit, the took the time to praise the owner and founder of the university for his commitment to aiding education in the region.

The Governor who was represented by his deputy, Manassah Daniel Jatau and accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi and other officials of the government, expressed that he was impressed with the state-of-the-art infrastructure and the quality of education being provided at the university. He commended the owner for the dedication to investing in education to complement his administration’s efforts in creating opportunities for students to pursue their academic goals.

Governor Yahaya highlighted the importance of education in driving development and progress in society. He emphasized the need for private institutions like North-Eastern University to continue supporting education initiatives and contributing to the growth of the educational sector in Gombe, and other parts of the Northeast.

He assured that in view of the importance education has been one of the key areas of concentration for him to development of other sectors, adding that he will stop at nothing to ensure providing the people with quality education for sustainable socio-economic development.

He said, “I have been following the developments in the university and I see it going beyond a North Eastern University but a University of Nigeria”.

Speaking on the Centre of African Medicinal Research that was recently developed by the university, the governor said, “I was fascinated by the centre. If we are to continue to import our drugs a lot of our patients will die. I have always stressed this point that, we need to come back home and explore our natural endowments. We have all types of plants that can be used for medicines and the drugs manufactured locally shall be much affordable for our people. Our Administration is ever ready to support you to achieve success, because your own success is our collective success,” Governor Yahaya assured.

On his part, the Pro-Chancellor and Founder of the University, Dr. Sani Jauro appreciated the governor and his team for their concern for the university. He also expressed gratitude to the government delegation for the visit and inspection of the school facilities.

Dr. Jauro informed the team that the school was going to write a report of the visit containing their appeals for assistance from the state government.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Yusuph Amuda Yahaya told the delegation that the university has plans and target to be one of the ten best universities in Nigeria before its ten anniversary. He also commended the state government for prioritizing and investing in education.
