New Delta State governor is keen on keeping the sporting legacies of the state as state government has assured that this year’s Female Super Six contest in Asaba will be the best ever.

The Super Six competition now holds from June 6 – 11 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba against the earlier date of June 9 to 18. Teams are expected to arrive in Asaba on Monday, June 5.

The Nigeria Women Female League (NWFL), stated that the change in date was to enable Nigeria meet the exigencies of the June 12 deadline set by CAF for the submission of names of champions in each country for the WAFU Zone B playoffs ahead the continental Champions League.

The sudden change in date notwithstanding, the Chairman of Delta Sports Commission, Tonobok Okowa, said yesterday that the state would give the competition the best treatment. “This is the first competition Delta State is hosting under the tenure of our new Governor, Sherrif Oborevwori. He is a great sports lover.

As Speaker of Delta House of Assembly, he demonstrated his passion for sports by giving support to all sporting activities we organised under the administration of former Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa.

“Governor Oborevwori is excited about the hosting of the Female Super Six, and I am sure he will be on ground to cheer the teams. We will give all the participating teams, their supporters and football fans from across the country the great treatment that Asaba is known for. We did it before and we will do it again,” Okowa stated.

The participating teams expected to arrive in Asaba Monday, include defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, FC Robbo, Confluence Queens, Rivers Angels and host, Delta Queens.

It will be recalled that Delta Queens FC gave the state its first major trophy in 2003, when it won that year’s Female Super Six contest in Umuahia, Abia State.
