There have been a series of mixed reactions over the unexpected resignation of the head coach of Super Eagles, Finidi George.

Daily Sun earlier reported that the Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Finidi George resigned from his position. This was disclosed by the Former Media Officer of the Super Eagles, Toyin Ibitoye in an X post on Saturday.

“News just in: Finidi George @FinidiGeorge_FG has resigned from his @NGSuperEagles manager position,” Ibitoye tweeted.

The development has elicited a lot of mixed reactions from Nigerians.

Daily Sun gathered some reactions from Nigerians on X social media platform.

@viqforlan said: “Good riddance to an arrogant and inept coach.
“We should also move on from trying to hand the reins of the Super Eagles to the class of ‘94.”

@Iamskununzy: “Though I wasn’t in support of his appointment but I’m against disrespect of a Nigerian.

“A couple of weeks ago, NFF came out to say Nigerians want a home-based coach and not a foreigner. They also said they want Nigerians to apply for the coaching job in which they received over 100 people applying the job according to NFF… so out of the 100 to them, Finidi was the best.  What changed after just 2 games? It just means their decision was awful. Who and who are also getting sacked in the NFF? If the coach is going, some heads should role in the NFF, too, for their stupid decision.
“Can you let go of a foreigner after 2 games? Total nonsense”.

@Oladapomikky1:” I’ll put the blame on the NFF for appointing Finidi George as the Super Eagles coach in the first place.
“The NFF decided to appoint finidi George over Emmanuel Amunike, who has a better CV and experience coaching a national team. Top-tier failure”.

@RealQueenBee__:”If the news about Finidi George’s resignation is true due to his failures in just 2 matches, then:
“Tinubu must resign if he has conscience for his calamitous failure after 1 year.”

@shafiihamidu:”Wise decision for him to resign. However, that would not still bring back the 5 points dropped into the World Cup Qualifying table. Nonetheless, he needs to leave and give chance to the new coach. That’s football for you, it’s a game of results. If you can’t produce results then you will be gone by morning.”

@P_Abuo:”Nigeria can we now move forward and qualify, please I beg una.”

@royal69399:”Why did it take him that long!
No tactics
No strategy!
No player management!
Just get them on the pitch to play…
Bye-bye!”

@OKWYtycoon:”So sad to see him go good luck to him in his future endeavors!”

@BalogunREADONE:”All the best Coach finidi  George..
God bless you”.

@Heryorbermy1:”You had a fit Victor Boniface on the bench for two matches and when you were asked you said, “It was a tactical decision” but now you’re trying to make Victor Osimhen the scapegoat after he called you and informed you he was injured.Nah, that’s not fair.”

It should be recalled that Finidi George was only appointed on April 29, 2024, to replace Jose Peseiro, whose contract expired in February.

During his very brief tenure, the former Enyimba boss oversaw a 1-1 draw with South Africa and a 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic, both in the 2026 World Cup qualifying series.
