Group of 60 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members of the House of Representatives has accused the leadership of the party of allegedly working against the interest of PDP in the Rivers State House of Assembly crisis.

Spokesman of the group, Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere, during a press briefing in Abuja, accused the PDP leadership under the acting national chairmanship, Umar Damagum, of alleged plot to frustrate the suit seeking to declare the seats of the 27 members of the Rivers State House, who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), vacant.

He noted that the overall goal is to ensure the defecting members remain in the Assembly so that they can allegedly impeach the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

“The PDP is now approbating and reprobating at the same time. So, what happened? When was this new alliance forged? When did the PDP start defending the defected lawmakers? What are the terms of that negotiation? Are the terms in the interest of the PDP or APC, the new party of the now-former members?”

The lawmaker added that in the aftermath of the last National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the PDP, which allowed Damagum to remain in office until August, when a new chairman will be elected, strange things have allegedly been happening in the opposition party.

Ugochinyere said first, it was a suit seeking to stop the PDP from removing Damagum as acting national chairman and the alleged plot to support the defecting Rivers State House of Assembly members.

Consequently, he called on governors and other leaders of the PDP to take urgent steps to rescue the opposition party before it is too late. “This is another early warning for the party and those who believe in it to stand up and save the soul of the party before irreversible damage is done to it,” Ugochinyere said.
