Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Nnenna Oti, yesterday, disclosed the institution’s council has approved N30 million grant for its host communities.

Oti said the school management got the approval of the council to institute Host Community Scholarship Scheme with an annual allocation of N10 million to 100 students,N100,000 each.

The second phase is the Poverty Allocation Project, in which N10 million, she said, will be given to the 10 host communities of the school annually and 100 indigent women and youths will get N100,000 each.

While the third face she announced as Community Development Project which she said N10 million would be given annually for joint host communities project. However in this case, she said the host communities will decide on the project of their choice.

This she believes will help enhance the relationship between the school and its host communities.

Meanwhile,  the school will be convoking 5,091 students on Saturday to mark the combined ceremony of graduating classes of 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions disrupted by the protracted Academic Staff Union of University strike.

Breaking down the graduates by class of degrees, Oti said 57 students would be graduating with first class degrees, 1,086 with second class upper, 2,477 with second class lower and 245 with third class totalling 3, 865 graduates for 2020/2021 set while in 2021/2022, 63 students graduated with first class honour, 591 with second class upper, 544 with second class lower and 28 with third class totalling 1,226.
