The chairman of the Sports Committee of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Prof. Victor S. Dugga, has highlighted the significance of the upcoming 9th Inter-faculty Games, emphasising its role in preparing athletes for the Nigeria University Games (NUGA).

At a media briefing on Tuesday, Prof. Victor S. Dugga said this year’s inter-faculty games would be different, as it will serve as preparation for pre-NUGA Games the university is hosting.

“This year’s inter-faculty games will be different. We are using this year’s Inter-faculty games to prepare our students for these upcoming events later in the year and also identify and select those who will represent us.”

With FULafia set to host the Zonal elimination, termed the Pre-NUGA games, Prof. Dugga stressed the importance of student participation and support, urging them to see beyond victory. “Winning should be second… Have fun while doing it for ‘all work and no play’, makes anyone a dull student,” he remarked.

Acknowledging the support of the university administration, Prof. Dugga thanked Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman for his commitment to sports development. He also called upon officials to ensure fair officiating, stating, “Neither the university, its sports committee nor the sports directorate are interested in who comes first.”

Abdullah Jafar, the school team captain, expressed excitement about the upcoming games, emphasising their role in selecting players for the Pre-NUGA event.

“These games would be used to select players that would represent the school at the pre NUGA games coming up in Jos Plateau State,” he noted.
